Anne’s Story

"The Working for Health Team is full of understanding, thoughtful and dedicated people, generous with both their time and expertise"Anne | Hull

In the Beginning…

After University, I very much enjoyed meaningful employment. Sadly, that high rewarding and fulfilling work came to an abrupt and premature end because of serious ill-health, the symptoms and treatment of which taking their heavy toll: physical and mental exhaustion; worry and anxiety about the future; a prolonged withdrawal from the wider world with no clear sense of direction or purpose; and a despondency at what could not be done as opposed to what can be achieved with a little courage to try…

How we helped you…

Since referral to Working for Health, there have been some noticeable changes and improvements: a growing confidence, a renewed sense of purpose and a willingness to try and engage in new ideas and opportunities which my Work Recovery Coach has encouraged and helped guide to fruition. As well as supporting the practicalities of finding (and maintaining) work, Working for Health actively promotes both physical and mental well-being and the varied and enriching ways in which that can be accomplished – from good nutrition, regular exercise and sounder sleep, to setting a personal challenge or “pledge” to that end. For me, that “pledge” was inspired and supported by my sister, who walked by my side, step by step, every inch of the Race for Life 2018. Those at Working for Health were genuinely and sincerely pleased by this achievement; an achievement I would not have considered possible only a few short months ago…

The Working for Health Team is full of understanding, thoughtful and dedicated people, generous with both their time and expertise. Always willing to lend a “listening ear”, they have shown great kindness, offered reassurance and some gentle, rational perspective when self-critical and emotional doubts have (re)surfaced. There is a very real sense of camaraderie and good will and every hope that each individual can realise their true potential and value in an ever rapidly changing and challenging world.

The Future…

With skilful assistance at Working for Health, I hope to continue taking positive steps toward future employment, exploring the possibility of an appropriate apprenticeship when the time is right. In the meantime, I will give and learn all I can as a responsible volunteer, increase my fitness levels by participating in more charitable walking events, and engage in fun and enriching opportunities.
