Paul’s Story
"I collaborated with my Work Coach to devise a set of goals that were tailored to me as an individual"Paul | Hull
In the Beginning….
When I started on the Inspire Project, I was feeling very low. My mental health had deteriorated so much that I had dropped out of university. I had no direction or motivation. I had become isolated and trapped in a cycle of doing nothing which then negatively impacted my mental health, making me too incapacitated to do anything. I started to lack the ability to focus and began to struggle to complete even the simplest daily task.
How we helped you….
The minute I stepped into the Working for Health offices I was made to feel welcome. I collaborated with my Work Coach to devise a set of goals that were tailored to me as an individual. We worked at a pace I was comfortable with so that my mental health wasn’t adversely affected by being pushed into too much, too soon. As a result, I built a trusting relationship with my Work Coach. When I was ready, we identified volunteer roles in my field of interest, which was nature and conservation.
I now volunteer at a nature reserve and the positive impact this has had on my mental health has been huge. I now have routine and structure and a sense of self-worth.
The future…..
As a result of the progress I have made over the last few months on the Inspire Project, my mental health has improved enormously. I am passionate about conservation and my voluntary role has given me confidence to pursue a job in this area, something that I now believe is an achievable goal.
A few months ago I never thought I could be optimistic about the future, yet, thanks to the Inspire Project and Working for Health, this is exactly how I feel.
